Twin Bridges remains available to help with service changes, provider relationships and next steps.
Technical troubleshooting and ongoing service support are generally handled directly by the company providing the service.
Local Number Portability, or LNP, allows you to keep your existing business phone numbers when changing service providers. The process is common and reliable, but a successful transition depends on accurate information, proper preparation and coordination between providers.
Before your numbers move, the new phone system should be configured and tested. Numbers should be assigned to the appropriate users, extensions, auto-attendants or call groups, with call routing, greetings, schedules and other important features prepared in advance. Whenever possible, users should also have their phones, applications and voicemail set up before the transfer so the new system is ready when the numbers become active.
Accurate account information is essential. Even small differences between the information submitted and your current provider's records can delay or prevent a port.
Before starting the transfer, confirm that your numbers are eligible to move and review your existing service agreement for notice requirements, termination fees or other contractual obligations. Porting timeframes can vary depending on the numbers and providers involved, so allow enough time for the process.
Keep your existing phone service active until the port has been completed and tested. On the scheduled port date, numbers typically transfer within a defined window, and brief service interruptions can occur while calls and services move from one provider to another. A backup plan, such as temporary call forwarding when available, can help reduce the risk of missed calls during the transition. Once the port is confirmed and incoming calls are routing properly through the new system, the previous service can be disconnected as appropriate.
Twin Bridges can help coordinate the transition and make sure the new solution is properly planned before the numbers move. The new provider handles the actual port, activation and technical adjustments associated with bringing the numbers onto its service.
